We like to carve out a niche for ourselves.
It is our souls clambering for that breath we draw in before we confidently shout “I AM OF VALUE TO THIS WORLD.”
I am of value to this world. I am valued. The world would not be same without my artistic vision, my angle on love. We run. We leap. Our hearts fill with purpose and inspiration.
And then we see another, living with passion, forging ahead, speaking with eloquence and creating with brilliance your very. same. idea.
Our hearts sink. Our feet grow cold. That once brilliant idea turns to ash in your hands.
But the worst thing of it all—you become lost in meaninglessness.
You are of no value to the world. You have nothing new to give. Your existence makes no difference in the churning, innovating, rolling world of people.
To a creative person I believe that is the greatest depression.
So what now? What do you do? Do you succumb to the darkness and meaninglessness of your existence?
Look.
Look closer.
Your idea—is it truly the same? On the surface, perhaps. In a one-sentence summary, perhaps.
But dig.
Dig deeper.
There is a complexity and a sharp brilliance buried deep within the idea you threw away in despair—do you have the passion to keep digging through the surface dirt that looks like everyone else’s and reach the treasure that glows with the very core of who you are?
Give your ideas a chance to show you they have a heart too.
There will be layers of failure and unoriginality, yes, but don’t. stop. peeling.
Love is commitment. Not a blind stubbornness, but a perseverance drawn from faith in a value perhaps not yet visible, but nonetheless existing.
Love your ideas. Commit to them. Keep pushing the limits. Don’t worry if it looks like what someone else is doing—as long as you keep pursuing the path that will inevitably be your own (for who can possibly emulate another’s entire life experience?), you will strike that gold of originality.
Pretending I have wisdom at 2:00 in the morning.

It’s been a while… About a year and a half, I’d say.
Josie is unleashed once more, free to wear dresses with doc martens, say hi to the whole world, and sing spontaneous songs of praise.
The other day I said “hi!” to a friend in the bathroom and she looked at me and asked, “Are you drunk?”
I was confused for second. No, I was not drunk. You know me, alcohol ain’t my thing.
I was, after a long hiatus, myself.
I’m not even sure if I’m lost. I’m lost about being lost?
I’m gradually extending further and further into the paradox.
