I’ve been here a couple of days, but
a) forgot to bring a plug adaptor for my dead laptop
b) grandparents’ computers are ancient
Today was the first day I moved into my Ewha dorm room. I’ll only show you my absent roommate’s other side of the room because my side is not so tidy. Being without a roommate on your first day of moving in is pretty lonely, I confess. It makes a world of a difference having someone present in the room. I’m missing my former roommate right now hehe hope she’s doing well wherever she’s at (:

The last four days were spent running back and forth from my dad’s parents’ place in 돈암동 서북구 (Donamdong Sungbukgu) and my mom’s side of the family in 청담동 강남구 (Cheongdamdong Gangnamgu). Before, when I was younger, I would always want to spend time with my mom’s side of the family because I wanted to hang out with my cousins and because the area is nicer. All I would do at my dad’s parents’ place is be on their ancient computer all day waiting for my grandmother to cook the next meal while my grandfather slept in front of the tv.
In the many times I visited my dad’s parents I never once discovered the treasures to be discovered at their place. This time, however, I was mature enough (as opposed to being so teenage angsty that I’d hermit myself in the guest room) to see the wealth of love and knowledge my grandparents had to share if only I would listen. This time I sat next to my grandfather who told me what it was like to live as the 7th out of 9 (“I never had a birthday celebration,” he said). This time I helped my grandmother out in the kitchen (until she would shoo me away) and developed a newfound appreciation for how much effort cooking one Korean meal requires.
Sure, my grandparents on both sides have a lot to say about how fat I’ve become and how irresponsible I am, but I know they love me greatly and I want to make them proud (:
Here are some images from exploring my grandparents’ home (why didn’t I ever do this before when I visited them?)
